The Notre Dame Hounds Junior A have added another set of eyes up north.

Trevor Sabo has been brought in as the club’s Northern Saskatchewan scout after five years in a scouting and managerial role with the Prince Albert minor hockey system.

Sabo, 37, spent last year scouting for the Calgary Mustangs of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

He is looking forward to bringing his passion and work ethic to ND.

“I am ecstatic to be part of such a storied organization like Notre Dame,” he said.

“There is a lot of history and success there over the years, so I’m really looking forward to getting involved.”

A fan of his hometown Prince Albert Raiders from youth, Sabo is a self-proclaimed lifelong ‘hockey junkie’, and is passionate about finding the right players to fit the club’s vision.

“Speed, skill and hockey sense are always the main three of what I look for in a player,” he said, “but getting a sense of their intangibles: their heart, character, and compete level is way up there in importance as well.”

“How a kid conducts himself on and off the ice, the player’s body language, they are the little things that a scout cannot afford to miss.”

He plans to simultaneously scout for the Golden Rockets of the Kelowna International Junior Hockey League.

Sabo joins the Hounds family along with fiancée Erin, and soon-to-be 10-year-old son Drayson.
