Hounds acquire Hound Wirun from Canmore

The Notre Dame Hounds are thrilled to announce that we have acquired Cole Wirun from the Canmore Eagles of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, in exchange for a player development fee.

Wirun, 19, spent his final two years of high school at Notre Dame, and led the 2021-22 Saskatchewan and West Region Sask U18AAA champion Hounds in scoring with 69 points in 44 games. He went on to log six points in six games at the U18 National Championship that year to lead the club as well.

“I believe Cole will bring a high level of offensive talent to our team,” said Hounds’ head coach and general manager Brett Pilkington.

“He will also bring a strong competitive nature that we hope will help to drive our group in the right direction.”

A native of Lethbridge, AB, Wirun has four goals and 13 points in 30 AJHL games over last season and this, all with the Eagles.

He is also an alumnus of his hometown Lethbridge Hurricanes minor hockey system and spent the Covid-19-shortened 20-21 season with the Canadian Secondary School Hockey League’s Notre Dame Hounds U17 prep team.
